Short Suspense Story Laura Poter The woods behind my house has always been there.They never seem to change. No animals ever come out. It is always still. It looks almost as if it is dead even though the leaves are still green and the bark is still strong. I’ve never been inside of it. I have always been to afraid. Until Cayla made me. I don’t know why I agreed to follow her into that trap, but I won’t be stupid enough to do it again. That day, we must’ve had tons of homework to do and probably didn’t want to do it. “Well I do and I’m going to go in there. I want to know what's inside. If you weren’t scared maybe you would too.” She said standing up and walking toward the dark woods. “Cayla! Don’t go in there!” I call ed after her, standing up but not following. Yet. “We won’t go far. Come on!” She yelled,walking to what I thought would be her doom. I contemplated for a minute, not wanting her to go tell all our friends at school the next day I wouldn’t take a simple walk on the woods. I ran down the steps of the old porch, going after her as she was swallowed by the trees. I made it through the brake but Cayla was gone. I slowed down and looked both ways. The light doesn't shine well through the dense trees. “Cayla?” I called out. There was no response. “Cayla!” I yelled a little louder. It suddenly grew darker. I look around me. It was like night. Just seconds before there was light but then it was just pitch black dark.
