In most cases, children’s literature does not contain much actual content. In order to keep ideas simple enough for a child to read and understand, the entirety of a children’s book will relay a superficial story about everything going right in the world - perhaps a fairytale about a prince and a princess, and the magic of true love. Everyone knows that these kinds of stories are unrealistic, and do not portray situations which occur in real life. People do not live happily ever after all the time, and events often do not work out the way people want them to. But these books are not written to be realistic. In most cases, they are written to be deemed suitable for a young child to read, and will frequently glance over details in order to shelter and protect children from the harsh reality of the real world.
