Having access to health care is a human right and the government’s obligation to make health care more manageable to not only increase life expectancy, but to also eliminate chronic diseases as the leading causes of death in the United States. Out of all countries, the U.S. is the one country that spends the most in health care costs. However, it’s the one who doesn’t see any better results since people are still dying from these top-leading causes of death2.
One of Lee’s core values was individualism and liberty where he referenced the Bill of Rights, which stresses the importance of human’s rights1. We as Americans, have the right to demand our rights and impose the federal government to make health care accessible to all Americans1. Violating the rights of Americans like this one is ethically wrong and we need to fight for these rights1. We are now seeing changes with the Affordable Care Act passed in 2010 seeing more people insured, but the government needs to take further action and create a strategy for people to easily access the medical care they need. Citizens in other countries like Germany, Canada and many more, are willing to pay higher payroll taxes for a better health care2. These European countries have systems that are way more effective by providing lower costs and offering more services but their payroll taxes are close to 37% where as a US worker pays about 15.3%3. Based on these high taxes, Europeans do not worry about the costs of health care since they are already paying it and are happy about it. Countries like Germany and Canada have higher longer life expectancies and lower infant mortality
