Try for a second to fill the shoes of one of the 44.3 million Americans less than 65 years of age currently without any medical coverage (Department of Health & Human Services). These people are strained to live in a nation at the forefront of medical advance with several of the best hospitals and leading research institutes without being able to access any of the services they provide. Arguably the most vital and needed thing, health, certainly should not be taken lightly as someone’s life is often in jeopardy. This program who, according to their website, focuses “on providing more Americans with access to affordable health insurance, improving the quality of health care and health insurance, regulating the health insurance industry, and reducing health care spending in the US” (DeMichele), a definite step forward in solving this huge, intricate problem. The Affordable Care Act, an alternative name for ObamaCare, aids about 16 million people with paying their insurance and obligates another 16 million to purchase their own private insurance. This new bill, though it seemed rather jarring in forcing people to buy insurance, stopped health insurance corporations from rejecting those who previously had issues or regulating the aids of those who become sick. This plan’s many drawbacks made it very unpopular as many feel that the preexisting free market should be reinstated. ObamaCare is not “reducing premiums for the average American families, bending the cost curve in health care spending or bringing down the deficit” (Tamara Thompson) which is alienating many of its previous supporters.
