“This is the generation of media overstimulation… Take control or be controlled…” (Document 7) Cell phones are taking control of this school’s students’ education and it’s up to you to want to change this school. Currently the administration at North Eugene High school is considering enforcing a ban that will make our school a “screen-free campus” between the hours 7:30 and 3:15. North Eugene High School should ban the use of cell phones in an educational setting like a classroom because cell phones encourage socialization rather than education and they serve as a major distraction, but North Eugene High School should not ban cell phones in the entire school because they give parents the flexibility to contact their children.

Document 2 proposes the idea that children’s lives should be full of “...freedom to travel to a variety of extracurricular activities or social engagements…” Cell phones gives students a sense of freedom that they wouldn’t usually have without it because they can get in contact with their parents when necessary instead of always being with their parents. In document 3, Dolman states that, “It’s a stereotype of teeneagers- that we can’t trust them with a cell phone.” This is implying that students should be trusted to have their cell phones and make a responsible decision about when is an appropriate time to use them. Allowing students to have their phones on them during school but not in class gives them communication to and from their parents when communication through the office is not
