In 2016, a Uranium War was occurring under all of American citizens’ noses. If you haven’t heard, you are just like the thousands of Americans who didn’t know either. Censorship has been happening for decades, but today, it is more than just a word, but a governmental problem. Censorship is when someone or a body of people purposely take information away from the public’s knowledge. For example, the government specifically hid information about the Uranium War happening on African soil. The government should not censor any information from the citizens of America because it causes mistrust, violates 1st Amendment rights, and allows a gateway to lying.

is because it violates our 1st Amendment rights. One of the most basic first amendment rights are freedom of speech and press. As U.S. citizens, we have a right to read what we want, and this includes information the government holds captive. We also have a right to press and exposing that information. However, the media has that right to withdraw that information from the public, but in censoring that information, the media is prohibiting our 1st Amendment right of freedom of speech. For clarification, a majority of the population believe that our basic right as humans is to reveal their own ideas in any way that they seem fit.In addition, censorship prohibits the rights of people to receive the information that they want to. Also, it can be a way for the government to control the information that is being fed to the public("Pros and Cons of Censorship"). People argue that when we are exposing everything, truly everything, such as, pornographic material, government data, etc., we are exposing this to children who are not mentally ready for that information("Pros and Cons of Censorship"). However, the benefits outweigh the consequences to knowing everything. When your child discovers information, such as, government data, they are learning from that data. One could even argue that by exposing this information that is being censored is educating our children. Another reason to object to this claim is because without censoring information, we are giving your child their first amendment rights back("Pros and Cons of Censorship").
