Technology has become the topic to discuss. With humans making large leaps in technological innovations, why not? We have advanced so far to where we now carry computers with us in the form of a phone. The topic that springs up along side technology is computer sciences. As we make new advancements, we have people behind them that work in the computer science field. Many, specifically, work in coding. There are some who say that coding is not a skill that is going to be needed as much while others say coding has become essential to teach. Teaching students how to code early could help them in school and in the long run. Coding should be taught in schools because it engages students in class, helps prepare them for jobs and brings more females into the field of computer science. …show more content…
If taught early enough, coding can be seen as a practical skill and something achievable for everyone. Coding in classes is not just a practical skill to learn for computer sciences, but can also apply to other subjects. Learning to code can engage students in other subjects such as reading, or science because the skill can be applied. Peter Gow, a teacher who writes for Independent School, found “students in English classes using Pencil Code, a Logo descendent being developed for education by Google engineer David Bau, to animate the blocking of scenes from Macbeth and to both illustrate and annotate poetry using hypertext (Gow).” Gow uses a quote from the English department head of the school and she states that there was definitely an improvement in coding and the students reading comprehension because they had to read the text in depth. Adding coding to the curriculum in schools would not only allow students the ability to code, but also a better understanding of other
