These students are filled with fear of choosing the right one or else their lives "will be ruined forever". College helps students develop into mature, responsible, and independent adults.
“Colleges Prepare People for Life” by Freeman Hrabowski relays that young adults can further their education and reach their fullest potential with the help of financial transparency. Often times, students think they are limited to high school because they believe they can’t afford a higher education. Hrabowski wants schools to be pellucid with their financial aid. Counseling students and families to help with financial aid will open their eyes to the opportunities that they can afford and that suit that student the best. If higher education takes the initiative to help school systems with college preparatory, then a students path to college will be less challenging and actually achievable.
For example, students make their own schedule. In order to receive a higher GPA many are able to just take these less challenging classes or enroll in certain professors courses that require little work or if they do assign work, they grade it loosely. One way colleges are ranked is based on graduation rates, so it only makes sense for them to make classes less difficult, give out high grades for little work, and offer programs that don’t push them too hard. There is a flaw in this because it places all the pressure on the university, rather than one where it should be placed, which is on the student. It is important for colleges to make sure that they aren’t simply just passing out degrees, but also providing what they are there for, which is for a learning experience.
