Why I Want To Pursue A Degree At Liberty University

After finishing my time here at Liberty University, I hope to graduate with a degree in digital media audio. This major includes things like television, films, radio, and business. I plan on hopefully getting to work a lot with music in my field. This could include running sound in a radio studio to putting sound effects in a television film. I originally wanted to do audio engineering but I later learned that it is very difficult to get a steady job. Digital media should broaden my horizons and allow me to get a job while still doing things I love. A problem facing this field is trying to figure out how to get your foot in the door. College will teach things that just cannot be learned in the real world. This includes: information about your major, how to do your major, and life skills that can be applied in your field of study. The problem of inexperience can be solved with a higher education. It is wise for an undergrad to try to do an internship in a studio. This will help the training process and will allow for a lot of “hands-on” work. Also, it is possible that the place your internship is at may want to keep you once you graduate. Doing an internship is a great way to get your foot in the door. Another struggle with digital media is long work hours. With some radio stations broadcasting 24 hours a day, there can be very long work chunks including weekends and holidays (bls.gov, par 3). It would be wise to try to get a goodnights sleep and drink lots of coffee! I have been taking a look at Foley. A Foley artist is someone who makes all the sound effects in television shows and movies. A struggle that comes with this is trying to network.
