A multi billion dollar wall should not be built. Because the United States is strengthened by illegal immigrants. Immigration has been slowed by increased border protection, however it hasn’t been stopped, but most illegal immigrants don’t cross the border. A majority of illegal immigrants are people who have overstayed their Visa or have been smuggled in vehicles. The truth is, building a wall to stop illegal immigration is useless.
First of all, a wall like the one proposed has already been built. Even though it is not as long as the one in theory, it still cost the government three million dollars per mile, roughly 2.1 billion dollars to build a 700 mile long fence. The fence did not stop illegal immigration. It only slowed it down, the human smugglers quickly found a way through.
Secondly, the wall in theory will be significantly more expensive. Since it won’t be a fence, it will be an actual concrete wall. The government will need money for building new roads, paying employees, and supplies according to experts that will cost at least 25 billion dollars.(Lopez) Then comes the cost of maintaining the wall after it is built, that will overlap the cost of building it in less than seven

Since, they have made the money they needed to start over back home. A small number of illegal immigrants are leaving because they couldn’t find a way to generate money. A greater part of those leaving are leaving because they have realized life back home is more suitable for someone who wants to achieve happiness. Illegal immigrants don’t come here to escape the law. Illegal immigrants come here with a plan to generate money. First, they obtain the unwanted jobs. Next they stabilize and settle here.
