A recent study conducted by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, concluded that students using iPads saw a 20% increase in math scores compared to students who used traditional textbooks. This has proven that the use of modern technology in the classrooms can benefit their learning process. Harbor Creek should give iPads to every student, for use in class and for homework, within one year, as these devices always have the most up-to-date learning resources, allow for learning to continue outside the school, and better prepare students for the future. To start things off, iPads give a student the capability to learn outside of the classroom. The device allows for a student to take the it home and experience a rich and vibrant learning experience with the use of several e-resources, and its lightweight construction. Personally, I have seen this within my family when my brother was given an iPad and came home with it. He then used it to play games, but these were math games: simple addition problems and spelling questions that were intertwined into the game. While learning, he was also having fun and enjoying it. With the average iPad costing around $500, the sum could end up costing nearly $200,000, for the educational deployment. This argument, however, has no merit as the total cost outweighs the benefits. The average cost of an iPad textbook $14.99, compared to $75.00, resulting in much more affordable costs of book. The school would also not have to replace or get new books every year as the publisher automatically publishes updates to the textbook.
