When debating between whether having physical education and not requiring students to partake in a sport or no physical education, but, making sports mandatory there are many aspects and details to consider. Giving the two options much thought, it is quite obvious that HCSD should keep physical education as it currently stands due to, students’ schedules, physical demands as well as students’ mental health throughout the school year. First, while putting into consideration why physical education is necessary and why it is unethical to enforce students to engage in a sport. One must judge the students’ schedule. With a high school filled with young adolescents that continue to grow into their own person, not everyone is going to be the next Lebron James or the next Tiger Woods. Some students, he or she has no care for sports and their specialty may be other academic classes or other arts such as music or painting and drawing. Not everyone is cut out to be a star athlete. In the article, “Childhood Obesity Facts,” it says, “Childhood obesity has more than doubled in children and quadrupled in adolescents in the past 30 years,” claiming obesity is a problem for a large number of children. One may suggest that putting a child into a demanding sport would help and solve the problem of child obesity. Does it mean the school system must force a student to do a sport? When a child does not excel at math or a specific subject you do not throw them into a rigorous or faster pace class on that subject. They would be likely to not try nor succeed in that class. So what constitutes for one to suggest that if a child is obese and does not like sports that they would want to be part of a rigorous sport in school. The same results will happen, those students will not try and there would be no positive outcomes in the long
