Social Media Websites Should Prohibit Hate Speech
The digital era has enhanced ways in which individuals interact – it has also facilitated easier and effective means for individuals to interact across the globe, alleviating challenges such costs, distance, and duration. Essentially, the exponential growth of the nternet and related technologies has been of great significance as they provide the platform for people to interact therefore enhancing communication as a whole. In particular, one of the features of the internet that has enhanced communication is the social media – this has enhanced how people interact regardless of the distance. Despite the economic benefits, which have been introduced by the continuous growth and use of the internet, social media has acted as a platform for hate speech. This essay therefore addresses the manner in which social media facilitate the spread of hate speech in order to support the proposition that social media should prohibit hate speech.

As initially discussed, hate speech is conveyed by a group of online individuals who share similar identity and values; as such, they end up conveying discriminatory statements or view either through blogs, emails, or personal facebook accounts of their target audience (Messmer). In this regard, I believe facebook should come up with a way of policing with an intention of regulating the content shared through various online platforms. Equally, Internet Service Providers should cooperate in order to work on modalities aimed at limiting the level of hate witnessed in different social networks.
