Is it time to get rid of the American tradition of school sports? In the article, “Yes, It’s Time to Scale Back” the author Amanda Ripley expresses how sports are harmful to the students and school funds. However, in the article, “No Sports Are More Important than Ever” by Tim O’ Shei discusses how school sports benefit students. The article, “10 Reasons Why High School Sports Benefit Students” by Grace Chen also backs up why school sports are important. School sports are a reason for failing grades; on the other hand, there are many positive benefits to having them in schools.
It is apathetic that students can’t play because of their background. Since necessities like food and paying bills have to be a family's top priority, their kids who could be star players are forced to not play because their families just can't afford it. Students can not decide what family they will be born into, so why do we exclude them from things just because of it? However, sports also have their downsides in that they take a lot of funding away from core classes, an excerpt from Amanda Ripley’s article “The Case against High School Sports” states that cheerleading is given around four times the amount of funding as math instruction. This is absurd since the core curriculum should be seen in tandem with sports since these core classes also build important skills like problem solving and critical

There were ten seconds left in the fourth quarter during the high school football finals with the score being 30-27. The Wasps were down three points when they had the ball at the 50 yard line, and the fate of the championship all depended on one throw. “Hike” yelled the quarterback; the ball snapped to him, and the receiver bolted down the field turf spraying from his cleats. 1.1 million students play high school football, and it is one of the most popular sports. The alumni have pride when they wear their jerseys because they represent their school.
Should kids as young as 10 play professional sports with the pros? Kids these days are getting into professional sports when they probably shouldn’t be. Teens are in professional sports but they get hurt or burned out most of the time. Teens should not be allowed to play professional sports, because most kids get burned out at the age of 9 or 10 and kids sometimes have to deal with competitive parents which stresses them out.
In today 's world schools spend too much money on after school sports and might get rid of them. Although many students think getting rid of after school sport is not necessary; schools save much more money now and a more percentage of students pass their classes because the schools use the money for educational purposes. Therefore, districts should get rid of after school sports because they are too expensive, students grades are dropping, and kids are not paying enough attention in class.
High School Sports Should be Funded Every year 300,000 students are participating in sports (Gould 1). The School District has been funding the athletics program, which has been benefiting many of the students’ lives for several years. The discontinuation of high school sports will cause many students to loose the health, social and educational benefits provided by participating in athletics. The School District should continue to fund sports because they benefit students.
The stress can get so intense, it feels paralyzing. That’s why it is important than ever for schools to invest in their athletic programs,” states the sports article “Should Schools get rid of Sports.” Schools should keep their sports programs because they help improve academics, help improve mental and emotional health, and improves social skills like being on a team. Schools should not get rid of their sports programs because they help with student’s academics.

Did you know that depending on the sport, students who play sports in college most likely have less than a 2% chance of becoming professional athletes? At middle schools, high schools and colleges across the country, everyone is arguing over whether or not students with failing grades should be allowed to play sports. In my opinion, a good education is so very important for our country’s youth, especially the athletes. Not a lot of kids are good enough to play in the top college sports programs in the country. But even those who are, still have an astonishingly low chance at making the professional leagues.
There are many controversial debates out in the world, but one big topic people come across is if all the kids on a team of some sort deserve a participation trophy just for socialization. Many can go back and forth and have their voice of reason with this issue but everyone is entitled to their own opinion. However sources show different kinds of theories on what people think should happen with trophies like these whether it be good or bad, but they also discuss how getting rid of these trophies may help motivate kids to do great things in their sport. Participation trophies should not be given out to a whole team. This debate really started to get acknowledged when NFL linebacker James Harrison took a picture of his kids’ trophies and said he was going to send them back.
Humanity has coveted and worshipped immortality for centuries. Living forever has fascinated and horrified many, especially authors, for just as long. Dracula, by Bram Stoker, is the classic representation of immortality. The horror novel depicts the curse immortality was feared to be, showing vampires as an object to be feared and loathed. The Invisible Life of Addie Larue by V. E. Schwab is a more recent representation.
This means that a kid who fails tryouts may think that all the other kids are better players. This leaves the child feeling very down-graded. This could lead to kids not participating in sports at all. ¨When children make the team, their self-confidence increases, but for those who get cut, their self-worth may decrease¨ says Alyssa. This shows that kids who make the team would feel very proud of themselves, but kids who get cut, they may feel neglected and possibly never play sports
Should High School sports be taken away? I’m going to be talking about whether they should take away sports in high schools. Some high schools think that sports are interfering with students learning and with their classes. Some other high schools are ok with having sports in school because it could help them gain lifetime benefits. I think they shouldn’t take away sports in high schools because it encourages the players to do well in class.
To most kids and students, competitive sports are a gateway to blow off some steam or to have fun. To parents, the sports that their children play and the lessons that they teach are an important part of their development and life. Despite what many ‘experts’ would like you to believe, both of these statements are completely true. I believe that kids should be allowed to play competitive sports due to the health benefits, the lessons that they can teach, and as a result of the advanced equipment and rules that are focused on making sports safe, as well as the fact that sports can keep kids out of trouble. One extremely important reason that forces me to take the position that kids should be allowed to compete in competitive sports is the health benefits that children who play sports recieve.
