Why High School Football Should Not Be Banned

There were ten seconds left in the fourth quarter during the high school football finals with the score being 30-27. The Wasps were down three points when they had the ball at the 50 yard line, and the fate of the championship all depended on one throw. “Hike” yelled the quarterback; the ball snapped to him, and the receiver bolted down the field turf spraying from his cleats. 1.1 million students play high school football, and it is one of the most popular sports. The alumni have pride when they wear their jerseys because they represent their school. High school football should not be banned because high school football players will be angry, football is an important sport, and it has huge benefits.

The Wall Street Journal states “football can provide an invaluable lesson in team effort, hard work and discipline”(Max Boot) Those skills help them in school and college especially if they pick go to one like West Point where discipline is prioritized. They will also help them when they join the workforce. Furthermore, The Wall Street Journal wrote that 32,000 football players receive scholarships out of the 64,000 total players. If high school football is banned those 32,000 students will not get a scholarship into the college they want, and some might not go to college. It is unfair to let thousands of pupils not get into a college they want for less money. In addition, Mayoclinic.org wrote that excersise helps to reduce stress. High school puts huge amounts stress on students to do well in order to keep up high grades. Exercise makes blood travel to the brain while producing mood enhancing chemicals.
