Summary Critique Jason Breslow wrote an article titled “High School Football Players Face Bigger Concussion Risk” and his main thesis is that kids who play football at a younger age are more susceptible to getting concussions rather then playing football at an older age. Throughout this article Jason argues the fact that younger kids who play football will get at least one concussion and he shows this by the use of logic and facts. In on case Jason states, “The study, which was an analysis of peer-reviewed studies on head trauma in a variety of high school sports, estimated that high school football players suffered 11.2 concussions for every 10,000 games and practices.
Football is a very popular sport not only in American high schools and colleges, but also in the entire country of the United States. Is playing high school football worth the risk and harm inflicted to high school football players? This is the main question raised by the author, Raymond Schroth, in the article “Abolish High School Football.” In this article, Schroth talked about the disadvantages and harms of playing high school football to the players. Schroth argued that high school football should be abolished because it had contributed more harmful effects than benefits to football players.
The Wall Street Journal states “football can provide an invaluable lesson in team effort, hard work and discipline”(Max Boot) Those skills help them in school and college especially if they pick go to one like West Point where discipline is prioritized. They will also help them when they join the workforce. Furthermore, The Wall Street Journal wrote that 32,000 football players receive scholarships out of the 64,000 total players. If high school football is banned those 32,000 students will not get a scholarship into the college they want, and some might not go to college.
I do not agree with this because besides football, there are other sports that are dangerous and it wouldn’t be fair to take football away. I know that the article wants to ban football because the article says, “Football for children under the age of 14 should be banned.” Unlike the other article, which called this idea an extreme view of the situation and an idea that would not serve the children well. This article also disagrees that children should change the way their heads are facing when tackling, to prevent injuries, which I disagree with because this could prevent many injuries, without having to take a whole sport away for children under the age of 14. I know that the article argues with this because the text says, “Players in flag football programs are not taught… be a horrible
Youth Tackle Football Why the interest in youth football lately? Youth football has been getting a bad rep lately because of concerned parents. Parents of football players are concerned for their child’s safety while playing tackle football. Plenty of cities and towns are banning youth football, because of concussions.
Do you know what it feels like to get hit in the head really hard and get a concussion. When athletes hit their heads, the impact can shake up their brain and cause concussions. Youth should not be able to play tackle football because they can get a concussion and go to the emergency room for that also they can suffer from long-lasting brain damage. Youth should not be able to play tackle football because they can get a concussion and that can cause problems like headaches and memory loss.
“His hope is that the research can be used to retool drills and rules to protect all the kids…” I disagree with this view; young children should not play football until they are 14 because, as recent research has shown, according to NBC news ¨There is some hope in the continuously improved protective technology with helmets and pads.¨ Although, football may be dangerous in many ways there's still some hope that this technology and equipment will become more advanced and safe, so that their will be less injuries in the game of
Many People have beliefs that High school football should be banned, yet I strongly believe otherwise. I believe that football should not be banned because many other sports lead to injuries. Also, the rules of football have changed because of the way players were getting hurt . Lastly, footballs game has changed over the past 10 years or so . That is why I strongly believe that high school football should not be banned.
I’m a big football fan, but I have to tell you if I had a son, I’d have think long and hard before I let him play football,” says President Obama (Fox News). The debate of whether or not football should be banned started with this speech given by President Obama. Recently, studies have shown that a large number of hits may cause more brain damage than a handful of concussions. Although people think banning football will decrease the amount of teen deaths and concussions; football should not be banned because it is just as dangerous as any other high school sports, many people would lose their job if it was banned, and football and sports help keep kids off the street. Football should not be banned because it is just as dangerous as any other
High school football exposes students the alarming risks of brain trauma, could be detrimental to their academics, and there are serious ethical questions about whether or not parents and teachers have the right to allow children to play the sports. According to
For many years has football has been considered the utmost dangerous sport in high school, but recently many new studies have been made to prove the exact opposite. High school football gives money to the school and improves the school. In high school sports when a team wins the championship the school gets money that can be used towards hiring new teachers, providing scholarships for students, buying new books, and overall improving the school itself. When a high school football team wins the championship the team's school gets $400,000 that can be spent on the school in many different forms.
Dr. Bennet Omalu stated that children's brain do not fully develop until they are about in the 18-25 years old range. This would end up making their brains more likely to be harmed and damaged and if a child receives many repeated blows to the head they can end up with permanent brain damage which can also lead to bad side effects later in life. Concussions and injuries to the head are a big problem in football. So why should we allow the most vulnerable to be put in harm's way and risk their futures? The answer is we should
If you have ever been in sports or school athletics, act fast! Schools are getting rid of their sports and we need to stop it. “Being a student is harder than ever. You are being held to tougher academic standards-and so is your school.
Football is a sacred American tradition that has been cherished for decades. Recently, football has become under fire because of its injuries with focus on concussions. With all of the negativity surrounding the association, the question is beginning form: Should High School football be banned? High school football should not be banned because football can help pay for college in scholarships, football greatly improves health, and it teaches many life lessons and skills. Never judge a book by its cover. People would want to read this because it shows how girls are just as important as boys. Girls should be able to play football because it lets them do something they love and it helps them stay in shape. Most people think that girls shouldn't be able to play football. They think this because they might get hurt or bullied but they are wrong.
