Sweatshops are factories or workshops where manual workers are employed at very low or under minimum wage for long hours and poor conditions. Sweatshops are usually in developing countries like India. People should not boycott sweatshop-made products because citizens want jobs from sweatshops, sweatshops are needed to make the country more advanced, and sweatshops help people in poverty. The first reason why sweatshops should not be boycotted is that people want jobs from sweatshops. First of all, people in poverty would rather work in sweatshops than the other jobs in the area; sweatshops offer more money. Although there are terrible working conditions in sweatshops, workers often choose to work in sweatshops than the other jobs in the area. In the article called, “Where Sweatshops Are a Dream” the author gathers citizens in poverty statements on working in sweatshops. They state, "I'd love to get a job in a factory," says Pirn Srey Rath, a 19-year-old woman scavenging for plastic. "At least that work is in the shade. Here is where it's hot." Another woman, Vath Sam Oeun, hopes her 10-year-old son grows up to get a factory job, partly because she has seen other children run over by garbage trucks.” A common belief is boycotting companies that use sweatshops will help the citizens in poverty. In fact, boycotting companies that use sweatshops will actually hurt the citizens in poverty.
