When you think of how many people in the world have little or no access to medicine, many think the number is smaller than it really is. In a survey we polled to 34 people, the average number given was around a few million (Survey). The actual number is estimated to be around one-third of Earth’s population. And according to humanium.org; over 13 million children under the age of 5 years old die from various illnesses that could have been previously treated. This sets the platform for our topic. The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation donates billions upon billions of dollars to 3rd World countries to help fight infectious diseases and treat the ill. The foundation helps give sick children and adults a second chance at life and gives them a better standard of living. We want to give people a better idea about what the foundation does, and to try and persuade people to donate money to the foundation or organizations like the Foundation.
The purpose of our research was to educate various students and others about the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and use them as a guide for helping the world. In our survey 88 percent polled said that they were not familiar with the foundation and its works. But yet 77 percent said that they or their family has donated to a charity before. Gates and his wife have donated over 30 billion dollars to the foundation where they work in over 100 countries worldwide. Health and hunger are the foundation’s main focuses but they have many other programs. A common misconception about the foundation is they only work in 3rd world countries around the world. When in reality the foundation works in the U.S. and many other developed countries with issues like, addiction, poverty, health, and many other programs. The impact they have on millions is second to none when it comes to any other worldwide health
