Should Harper Lee's How to kill a mockingbird book be a part of the school's required book curriculum? The issue with the book is the language and the time the book takes place and how black characters are treated in How To kill a Mockingbird. How to kill a mockingbird should not be a part of a school's curriculum in today's world. Why should How to kill a MockingBird not be a part of the school's curriculum? First off because the book is outdated and it does not represent our society today.
What they did was put it in the library instead of teaching it in the curriculum. Yes the book might be appropriate for some children, but for others it might be too intense. So putting it in the library lets you decide whether you are ready for the book, if not don 't read it. Like where it says in paragraph 3 of the article where it says, “It’s still in our library”. The school leader in Biloxi thought that the morals taught from the book “to Kill a Mockingbird” could be replicated in a less offensive form through another book.
“To Kill a Mockingbird” written by Harper Lee is an award winning novel published in the 1960’s it explores the main theme of racial differences in the early 1930’s and the many struggles, acceptance challenges and problems that black people faced during this time period. Set in the country town of Maycomb County, Southern Alabama it follows the story of a family, a lawyer named Atticus Finch and his two children Scout and Jem. As the two children, Scout and Jem grow up their father teaches them life lessons which in that time and in their community were said to be different and unlike everyones else’s ideas which were therefore redeemed as un normal. Proceeding through the story it uncovers the harsh ways of growing up and being introduced
First, starting off with the biggest issue: racism. The story of To Kill a Mockingbird takes place in the early 1930 's, the years of the Great Depression and unemployment was spreading rapidly. Racism was extremely strong, especially in the south (which this story takes place). Being African-American at this time was horrible. They had the most effect from the Great Depression having to take on even more jobs and work even harder.

Some people may think that the best solution to these problems are to take out these words and censor the whole book.

To Kill a Mockingbird is a novel written and published by Harper Lee in 1960. The novel takes place during the three years of the great depression in the fictional town of Maycomb, Alabama. The novel deals with serious issues of rape and racial inequality. To Kill a Mockingbird should not be banned in schools because students such as myself need to exposed to the themes that are in the novel because the novel’s themes have relevance in today’s society.
By examining the profanity, racial content, and references to rape, it’s deemed inappropriate for teens to read and is banned from several school libraries and lessons in school. Does the moral lesson of the story outweigh the so called inappropriate content of the book? Many people would agree with me if I said that To Kill a Mockingbird has a lesson in the story that every child should read and learn
This book should be taught to High School students across the country, and it should not be a banned book. To Kill a Mockingbird teaches students morals, and ethics. The book is still partially accurate to what some people go through even in today’s world, and what the books reads is still a part of history that should not be covered up and tucked away. To Kill a Mockingbird should still be taught in school systems, and should not be a banned book because the novel focuses on a part of history that should not be ignored.
Being able to completely understand and follow the different language in To Kill a Mockingbird is one thing, but to decide whether or not it’s still relevant is another thing. Well this book still is relevant and yes some may say that this book is history and we should be reading about the future and present not about the past, but our past is the most important because we can read about the mistakes made and not make them again. To Kill a Mockingbird is based around the civil rights movement and that means that there was a lot of racism happening during the novel. Even though To Kill a Mockingbird is considered an “older” novel and currently it’s the 21st century and not all students enjoy reading this book in their schools but the novel should stay in these curriculums because of the hard times in the civil rights movement

To Kill A Mockingbird should absolutely remain on the banned book list because it shows racism throughout the entire book and teaches the reader that being prejudice is alright. Her father, Atticus Finch, is an attorney who is struggling to prove the innocence of a black man incorrectly accused of rape. The historical context of the book lets one see the social status of different groups during the civil rights era. The story explores who fits into certain societies, who is respected in the community, written and unwritten rules concerning family, gender, age, and race, expectations of certain people, and what conflicts arise out of tension.
