Synthesis Essay The United States Postal Office has been delivering mail since 1691 but with technology advancing many are questioning whether or not the USPS should cut back on delivery days. People are choosing to write emails or send texts instead of write letters. The number of USPS deliveries is exponentially decreasing each year, along with the number of employees. Some say that the USPS has advantages such as providing jobs, it is cheaper than other delivery services, and it provides people who are not tech savvy a way to deliver packages as well as letters. An article from Watts Wacker, a futurist, says that an easy alternative is issue every American an e-mail address when they are born. This allows the USPS to put itself into a more modern and growing business. Wacker also says that they can advertising on the e-mail accounts which will bring them a profit. While getting involved in the e-business will generate profit for the USPS it is not enough the keep them out of jeopardy of closing. The USPS has created such substantial debt the CEO, John Potter, considered no longer delivering mail on Saturdays. The USPS loses about $4.4 billion per year and cutting down delivery will save $4 billion a year, but it still keeps the post office $400 million more in debt each year.
