Should or Shouldn’t College Tuition Be Lowered
College tuition and other costs associated with going to college continue to rise but a college education shouldn’t cost a fortune. Tuition can be rather costly for some students. Higher education is fascinating, the pricing effect whose career will flourish and who will fail. One thing is certain: tuition alone does not cover the cost of an excellent college education. (Campo) Graduates will have at least 25 years of debt after graduating, when they should be planning retirement, getting married or buying a house. An increase in college tuition can discourage students from attending college, leave them in post-graduate debt and the enrollment rate will drop.
Tuition hikes discourage students from furthering education. More students aren’t attending college mainly because they can’t afford it or because admissions shut them out. A steady rise in tuition can be seen as a way of discouraging students from attending college. Holding the line on tuition is essential to prevent shifting the burden of rising costs to the very students the institution serves.
