Technology plays a prominent part in the whole world’s culture today, but has anyone ever considered the effects of that? Most have not, they just get used to the constant flow of information, responding to every notification, text, call, tweet, and follow. Have they ever thought about the benefits of going ‘technology free’ for a week? Some people might not be able to do this, because their lives are so integrated with technology, how it helps everyone in their daily lives, providing information, and connecting people. Although technology can cause changes in behavior, be a distraction, and can affect thinking, the school should not participate in “Shut Down Your Screen Week” because it easily connects many people and it can improve their level of thinking. …show more content…
With so many sources of information at people’s fingertips, they can find information quickly, as the “Internet’s information” allows people “think better and faster” (Source 2; Line 31). If one can look up data so quickly, they can use that to “arrive at more creative and informed solutions”, helping them to reach an adequate level of intelligence (Source 2; Line 32). Having the technology and the internet “ has made us smarter - both individually and collectively - because we have ready and free access and information”, and it allows people to communicate in seconds, provides accurate information, and various opinions. One could propose this close connection that people have with technology can take people away from the present, but it really just enhances the present as the “opportunities outweigh the distractions” (Source 2; Line 36). Consequently, one can come to believe that the internet today really does help people to increase their intelligence easily and efficiently, which makes them want to oppose participation in “Shut Down Your Screen Week”
