The phrase “Sí Se Puede” has different meanings. Such as the English translation of “Yes You Can” but to me “Sí Se Puede” has a different meaning. To me, this phrase means anything is possible just as long as you work hard for it. As a Hispanic, this phrase means showing that my race is capable of being successful just like any other race. As a daughter, it means making my parents proud of me and of my success but overall this phrase to me means achieving my goals and living the “American Dream.” There are plenty of meanings for “Sí Se Puede” but these are the most important to me. Gabriela Reyna, a successful Latina entrepreneur once said: “Success is not a destination, it is a journey we should constantly pursue.” For example, success is something you have to work for but like Gabriela said: “Success is not a destination.” You can always be more successful than what you are today. Just like my second meaning that my race is just as capable of anything just like any race, we are. For example, Jennifer Lopez, the famous actress, and singer, she started off just as a background dancer on a comedy show later on in her career she was the first to have her movie and album on the top charts on the same week. Another example of capability would be the graduation rates going up. In 2006 the graduation rate for Hispanics was 61% but towards 2010 it grew 10% also in about 38 states from the years 2009-2010 the graduation rate for Hispanics grew by more than one percentage. Hispanics are as capable of showing one that they can be successful just like any other race. We ignore any stereotype and prove people wrong plenty of times.
