One of their similarities was invasions by barbarian tribes.
Introduction The governments of Han China and Rome after Augustus were vastly different in their institutions and practices. While both empires employed autocratic rule and relied on bureaucracy, the ways in which they developed these systems varied significantly. The Han Chinese imperial government was characterized by a Confucian meritocracy while the Roman imperial government was characterized by a strong religious framework. Additionally, Han China tended to centralize more power within a single ruler as compared to Rome's system of devolved authority through provincial governorships.
Athens, Rome, Han China, and Ancient Egypt all have similar and different geography, history and government. First in Athens they had a Direct democracy. Political integration between both empires had both similarities and differences, most notably being different with the ways they chose those to rule. In Imperial Rome, bureaucracy relied on local elites (landholders) and the middle-class citizens to control provinces. Imperial Rome was far less complex, compared to the bureaucracy of Han China. Many official positions within the government were bought or became hereditary through family wealth as opposed to earned by merit, due to this fact, the Roman bureaucracy often suffered from poor governance. Jon Krakauer’s Into Thin Air Albert Einstein once proclaimed, “ Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better.” Einstein, in this quote, was saying that all types of nature, whether it be human or physical, require profound examination to have the ability to recognize the nature of ourselves as people. The modest yet extraordinary statement perfectly illustrates Jon Krakauer’s non-fiction novel Into Thin Air. The book is a personal account of his journey climbing Mount Everest and the tragic events that occurred along with it. Into Thin Air not only brought awareness to the issues involving the Earth and it’s air quality, but also created an outlet for writers to use real life events as symbols for significant lessons.
