The famous baseball player, Dave Winfield, once said, “You know, heroes are ordinary people that have achieved extraordinary things in life.” In the books To Kill A Mockingbird, by Harper Lee, and Of Mice And Men, by John Steinbeck, Atticus Finch and George Milton, are ordinary people who have done extraordinary things, and both of them have many things in common.

When Atticus defended Tom Robinson, he did not have a gun, and he was already at a disadvantage. No matter what he did there was almost no way he could have won the case, but he still tried anyways, which gives him courage. All heroes have courage. Atticus was brave because most of the villagers were very racist and didn't like Tom based on his race. But, Atticus still stood up for what was right. After Atticus argued on Tom Robinson’s behalf, the town jury even seriously considered Atticus Finch’s evidence and took many hours to decide whether Tom Robinson was guilty or not. Although Atticus Finch did not win the case and Tom Robinson was declared guilty, Atticus still greatly affected the town for the better because the villagers were less racist. I knowed his Aunt Clara. She took him when he was a baby and raised him up. When his Aunt Clara died, Lennie just come along with me out workin'. Got kinda used to each other after a little while." George is a hero because he could leave Lennie at anytime and just stop looking after him, but George always knows what's best for Lennie and really cares about him. Atticus Finch and George Milton both have many things in common. One big thing is they both do what they think is right. In To Kill A Mockingbird, Atticus thinks the right thing is to defend Tom Robinson, and in Of Mice And Men, George thinks the right thing to do is to look after Lennie and in the end, Kill him.
