Often in literature, Authors use their works to bring across their point of view on human nature. In the stories, ATTWN and Saw, it leads to revelations about human nature. Throughout Saw and ATTWN they both share the motif of being trapped. The two stories share many similarities. ATTWN and Saw prove that humans actions have consequences. There are several similarities but one similarity between ATTWN and Saw is they both show manipulation. Both storylines share the idea of a mastermind who manipulates the other characters. Justice Lawrence Wargrave manipulates the other characters ATTWN by making them turn on each other and suspect each other. He also makes them scared, paranoid, insane, and sometimes harm each other. Jigsaw manipulates the characters in Saw with the same techniques as Justice Lawrence Wargrave. The two characters, Jigsaw and Wargrave, are very similar. Both characters are also there with their victims throughout the whole story, the other characters just aren't aware of it. Also, they are mentally trapped in either their guilt or self righteousness. In saw they are physically and mentally trapped also. They are physically trapped because there is no way out of the room unless they conquer the mental aspect of the situation. The mental aspect is the decision on whether or not they comply with Jigsaw, if they agree then they are free to go, if they do not then they are left for dead.
