Bill of Rights and English Bill of Rights Both the U.S. Bill of Rights and English Bill of Rights are very similar and at the same time different in many ways. Specific freedoms were guaranteed in both the Bill of Rights and English Bill of Rights. Some of the rights promised in the Bill of Rights for citizens of the United States included the right to be not unreasonably searched by the government, the right to not house soldiers in civilian homes, the right to bear arms, and freedom of speech and religion. However even though the English Bill of Rights has some provisions similar to the Bill of Rights it also provides provisions to set up a government. The English Bill of Rights for example states the monarch can not tax without consent of Parliament and the monarch can not interfere in elections for Parliament. A constitutional monarchy was put in motion by the English Bill of Rights. A constitutional monarchy is when a monarch has a ceremonial position with a limited amount of power. The English Bill of Rights discredits King James II for abusing his power and states that the monarchy needs approval of Parliament. On the other hand the U.S.Bill of Rights is the first ten amendments in the Constitution.
