In the US Constitution the language is very direct, and even more obvious, a response against former British laws. The 3rd Amendment “prevents government from forcing homeowners to allow soldiers to use their homes,” (June 5, 2023). Before the war the British enforced a law stating soldiers had the right to take over and live on others private property. The 4th Amendment “bars the government from unreasonable search and seizure of an individual or their private property,” (June 5, 2023).
“Redcoats and Rebels”, by Christopher Hibbert is the story of the American Revolution through British eyes. Christopher Hibbert has written an assortment of historical text, and has influenced a lot of people throughout his writings, “Redcoats and Rebels”, being one of them. Most authors that write about the American Revolution put the point of view of an American, or American soldier. Hibbert wants to change the perspective of the entire war, not by favoring the British side, but telling the story like it is. It is fascinating to read the struggles and hardships of the “enemy”.
By 1781 if you were neutral you were considered a loyalist. The British protects us from multiple situations. The Britain army has 800,000 men, with at least 20,000 volunteers from the colonists. If a rebel officer attacks us the British army with set a target of them alone.

Henry’s Striking Speech “I am not a Virginian but an American”(Henry 2). During the age of reason, people believed in logic and appealed more to statistics and reason rather than ethics or emotion. People were interested in and aimed for liberty, progress, tolerance, fraternity, constitutional government, and separation of church and state. During the age of reason, people feared the devil. In the Declaration of Independence, it is said that “They are endowed by the Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness” (Jefferson). This shows the people of the colonies that they have the right to be free from all ties binding them to the British, so there is no reason to not gain independence. Thomas Paine says that “God Almighty will not give up a people to military destruction…who have so earnestly and so repeatedly sought to avoid the calamities of war” (Paine). In 1775 the Virginia Convention was deciding to fight against the British and Patrick Henry was ready for this war. He presents his people the speech to fight the British and his argument is “there is no retreat but in submission and slavery” meaning that they have to fight or else they will lose everything to the British.

Liberty or Death “Give me Liberty or give me Death!” It was 1775 the time were colonist were trying to break free from British troops and Government. Colonist steadily paying unfair taxes, on all newspaper and public documents which the British Parliament named the “ Stamp Act”. The colonist feared that they would be overruled and would never get there freedom. The only thing they wanted was to get their rights and a new government.
According to the engraving (painting) in document three the British soldiers are portrayed like murderers. The soldiers had a huge advantage over the colonists since they were armed, skilled and organized. Ready to aim and kill anyone that got in their way, the soldiers took no chances and fired up uncontrollably. This attack left many colonists wounded and several of them died. Colonists were just throwing snowballs at them but the soldiers reacted way out of place.
Thomas Paine’s The Crisis does an excellent job of exemplifying the usage of the colonist’s feelings prominently in the content. One of Paine’s purposes in writing such a pamphlet is to convince the colonial Americans that they must not be cowardly by supporting British rule. Throughout his pamphlet, this ideal is displayed in an extremely pronounced manner, with a considerable example in the first paragraph: “The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will… shrink from the service of this country; but he that stands it now, deserves the love and thanks of every man and woman.” (Paine 331).
One time the British passed a law that allowed the british soldiers to forcefully live in the colonists’ home! The colonies started out to benefit Great Britain, but after one war and lots of laws, the colonies were going to be part of a revolution. What was the American Revolution about? Economic Rights or Civil Liberties? On one hand the British instilled unfair regulations on trade and goods.
On March 23, 1775, Patrick Henry presented the idea of fighting against Great Britain for liberty, which Great Britain had suppressed the American colonists for years. Freedom and liberty were necessary for the colonists of the Thirteen Colonies to feel like individual people. Every person should be able to decide the action they would take and the responsibilities they would have. This speech was remarkable and memorable for the start of the bold actions that changed the world forever. Patrick Henry persuade the colonist to fight the British government by using his strong voice as a weapon.
