The Real Lincoln is a very informative book. It shows the complete and hidden side of Lincoln during the time of his presidential term. Thomas J. Dilorenzo did a very good job at expressing his ideas and opinions of Lincoln along with supporting them with legitimate facts. The author also reveals the myths of Lincoln and the true origins of the United States Civil War. Thomas DiLorenzo is economics professor at Loyola University in Maryland.
Anthony Ibeziako, Professor Sue Hilton, ENGL 1113, April 12, 2017. A Look in Comparison and Contrasts. The essay was written by Bruce Catton; who compares the lives and characteristics of two Civil War leaders who put an end to the civil war in a meeting.
One of the biggest problems with the work is the lack of a codified bibliography to show the exact works that O’Reilly used to develop such an in-depth journey alongside Boothe and the sixteenth president. Peter Boyer sums up the lack of higher academic standing when he says, “Killing Lincoln is not a work of original scholarship or of breakthrough insight; it is meant to be a page turner” (Boyer). Additionally, the book also at times lacks objectiveness necessary to truly be a work of academic renown. Often the book seems a deification of Lincoln and an absurd villainization of a man who needs no help in being disliked. Also, the book is written from a staunch northern perspective that is at times full of hypocrisy.
In history I find Andrew Jackson was a interesting character because I do not know why he is on the $20 bill. His ego makes him more a tough contender in history since no one tends to have that authoritarian feeling. The entire essay I kept
Mark Twain and Frederick Douglass both have interesting ways of writing. There are similarities and differences in their writing. They each have their own personal preference toward their style, tone, and perspective. Each story was a remembrance of boyhood written in first person. As evident, Twain’s story takes place as a boy in a town on the Mississippi River.
In 1857, an African American man named Dred Scott sued for his freedom in the Supreme Court. His owners brought him along on their trips across free states. Dred Scott failed in suing before his case was presented in the Supreme Court. Roger B. Taney was the fifth chief Justice of the United States when he wrote the Dred Scott vs Sandford decision. The Dred Scott vs Sandford case ended with the decision that African Americans, free and enslaved, had no rights and could not become citizens because they were property.
These two books would be interesting to read because you get to know the author more by knowing their personal experiences and you’d understand the story a little bit better since both books are first person narrative. You get to understand what they have been through and how difficult it was for them try to be who they are remembered for now. They contrast because Twain wrote about how badly he wanted to become a steamboat pilot while Frederick wanted to no longer be a slave. Throughout their stories they encounter problems and they always resolve them. If we get to read these books we get to know more about our past and how things were different before.
Mark twain’s writing as well as Frederick Douglass writings have many similarities and differences. The similarities and differences come from the tone of their writing and the language of their writing. Some ways their writings are similar is because they are both in first person narrative writers. They both use the words I and my in their writings.
The authors and texts were both written in the early 1800’s, and are about each author’s childhood experience. Both strived to be objective. Douglass made his writing with facts and no emotional descriptions, because readers doubted a former slave could be intelligent and write without bias. Twain wrote with honesty and moral superiority. Both authors use details and imagery to create ethos, because the details are evidence to the story’s credibility.

DBQ: Martin Luther King and Malcolm X: Rewrite During the 1960’s there was a greatly increased in violence in America. There were riots, bombings, racism, and discrimination. Many African American were mistreated due to the racist people who intervened the African Americans from doing anything. Two civil rights activists wanted change for African Americans and were both fighting for the same cause, civil rights.
They both tried to be uplifting and pushed for nonviolence. Both speeches dealt with blacks and their freedom. The speeches were intelligently written and full of phrases that expressed the authors’ feelings. Both felt that God wanted all people to be free and treated equally.

The novellas Of Mice and Men and The Pearl are both often noted as social criticisms. The author, John Steinbeck addresses real-life issues that society is facing. Whether through direct statements and comments, or through a fictional characters’ situation, Steinbeck criticizes just some of the problems of society. He shows the way people are discriminated against, and why. He shows the issues society faces.
