Similarities Between Danny And Reuven

C. S. Lewis is known to have once quoted: “Friendship is born at that moment when one person says to another: ‘What! You too? I thought I was the only one,’ ” In the novel, The Chosen, by Chiam Potok, the author shows examples of parallels between the two main characters, Danny and Reuven. This symbol, as well as many others shows just how well friendships work between the two people in the relationship. Friendship in reality is much like a gift, and should be taken with care. If done right, the relationship can end up being a beautiful thing between two wonderful people. Therefore, friendship is a parallel between two people, as well as, friendship is when two people grow off of one another, and finally, true friendship is impossible to lose. To start off, friendship is a parallel between two people. This can be found in chapter six when Reuven is describing how he felt at the hospital to his father: “He listened quietly, all the while sipping his tea. When I finished, I saw him smile” (111). This means that through the experiences and troubles the relationship may face, both mature and ultimately grow and become wise from said experiences and troubles. One reads in chapter eighteen: “The first day you sat here, you were only a boy. Now you are a man,” (281). This is a piece of dialogue from Reb Saunders meant for Reuven as they finally see each other after a long time of distance. Reb Saunders is showing that he has noticed that Reuven has grown. That Reuven is no longer a little boy and is finally finding his place in the world. Danny’s father then goes on how his son has grown as well. Though a small part of the book, it just goes to show that the boy’s friendship ultimately changed and shaped their future
