"I Hear America Singing" is in a very cheerful and joyous situation but "I, Too" is quite the opposite, despite this, there still are some similarities between how the characters feel.
The culture of most blacks was unwanted during this time. For this reason Hughes desired to make a change and illustrate such cultural identities in his poems. In doing this he caused a shift in ideas among all people. Although the change didn’t happen immediately it did eventually occur. With that said the African American people were given less of an opportunity at jobs, schooling, and most importantly culture.

Walt Whitman was the first of the two authors to write, followed by Langston Hughes who was influenced by Whitman's work. While Whitman's poem, "I Hear America Singing" reflects the happiness of the American people, the poem written by Hughes takes a different approach.

In the 1800’s there were many changes in American literature and new poets decided to come out from hiding. Walt Whitman and Emily Dickinson are two of the most famous poets in this time period who revolutionized both style and subject of American poetry. But the two were vastly different from each other. Both poets come from opposite backgrounds but they use similar sources to write their poetry. But Together they have changed the way that people view american poetry and their poetry can still be seen today.
In the two poems, “I Hear America Singing,” and, “I, Too,” there are many similarities and differences that show us that know matter what is happening you have to stand up for yourself and do what you love. We see this in the two poems, “I Hear America Singing,” and, “I, Too” when the authors, Walt Whitman and Langston Hughes, both talk about what America was a like in the 1900s, and how people were doing jobs that they had liked to do. We can see how a African American man would stand up for himself and we see this in the poem “I, Too” because we are able to see how he was able to stand up to everyone else and prove he was able to be treated like anyone else.

The poem "I, Too, Sing America" by Langston Hughes builds on Walt Whitman's "I Hear America Singing. " Hughes's poem was written earlier than Whitman's, and their titles are almost identical. The poem "I, Too, Sing America" states, "I am the darker brother;" therefore, the theme of the poem is that "everyone has a voice. " I Hear America Singing." The line "Each singing what belongs to him, to her, and to none else" tells that the theme of the poem "I Hear America Singing" is that each voice is individual.
Walt Whitman's "I Hear America Singing has a celebratory tone toward the American experience of working-class Americans. At the same time, Langston Hughes's "I, Too" takes a passionate tone toward the American experience of Black Americans. Walt Whitman wrote "I Hear America Singing" in 1855 while slavery was still legal in the United States, and Langston Hughes wrote "I, Too" in response to Whitman's poem. In Whitman's poem, it states, "Singing with open mouths their strong melodious songs" (Whitman, lines 12-13). This line describes how working-class Americans unite in a symbolic song to bring the country together.
Langston Hughes was an American poem born in the early nineteen hundreds, who became known as the leader of the Harlem Renaissance. He published many poems that brought light to the life of people of color in the twentieth century. There are three poems that the speakers are used to portray three major themes of each poem. Racism, the American Dream, and Hopes are all the major themes that Hughes uses to highlight the average life of a person of color. Theme for English B,” “Harlem,” and “Let America Be America Again” were three of Hughes’s poems that was selected to underline the themes.
Homelessness is a rising issue and has always been prominent in America. Many people line the city streets hoping for money and/or food/water. However this problem is not only in the city, this happens in all sorts of places. Most people have encountered a homeless person on the sidewalk or elsewhere and will usually feel the wave of guilt of not having cash but at the same time wearing nice clothes or holding shopping bags. Homelessness is a sad tragedy, fortunately, there are solutions such as starting a government fund especially for ending homelessness, relying on the kindness of people to help out, and/or building more shelters in city areas.
