The characters and the theme of Fahrenheit 451 have many distinct characteristics that allow for it to be compared to The Truman Show. Fahrenheit 451 and The Truman Show both present the theme that people generally accept the reality they are given. Characters in the film and novel portray this theme by setting artificial reality against actual reality. What is shown as reality to the people in the film and in the novel is not what the actual world is. The reality presented is that knowledge is power and in both Fahrenheit 451 and The Truman Show there are people without knowledge and people with knowledge.

A huge part of The Joy Luck Club is about the flashbacks and memories shared by the mothers from their days as young adults. The thrilling story of these four women and their struggles might as well be a biography about Amy Tan and her mother. Amy Tan’s mother, just like Suyuan Woo, also left her children in China and even though Daisy Li left three children and Suyuan Woo left two, there is still a connection between the two. The book is split up into four different parts with sixteen different stories all told by each one of the women, mothers and daughters. In the book To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, there are many similarities between the narrator, Scout, and the author, Harper Lee. For instance, both grew up in the time of the great depression with little money to do extra things; therefore, they relied on their imaginations to entertain them for hours (Haggerty) . Comparatively, both were tomboys in their youths and grew up in small towns where girls were expected to wear dresses and act like a lady. Also, both Harper Lee and Scout both grew up with their fathers being lawyers for their town and would often hear of cases that they worked on (“Harper Lee”) . Similarly, when writing her book a “mad dog warning” was released, no doubt giving the idea for the episode of the mad dog Tim Robinson.
