Similarities Between Lily And The Wizard Of Oz

The main characters Lily in, Secret Life of bees, and Dorothy in, The Wizard of Oz, have very similar experiences and are alike in several ways, which can be seen when comparing both texts. These consist of similarities between character roles/dynamics in the two stories, journeying to new places far from home in search of information, and lessons learned by the main characters.
There is a quite noticeable parallel between the character roles and the dynamics in the two stories. The two stories center themselves on a young, somewhat naive girl who is forced to travel to an unfamiliar place. Lily travels with Rosaleen, who is like her companion. One can see this parallel in The Wizard of Oz when Dorothy travels to a new place, Oz, with her companion, Totto. Lily wants to know about her mothers life and Dorothy wants to know how to get home. In the book, The Secret Life of bees, Lily leaves home and ventures out to find out more about her mother and her life. "She must have been here some time in her life to have owned this picture. And if she was, a person might remember her. Lily basically follows the clues left by Debora, her mom, using the Black Madonna picture and the town written on the back of it. She travels to a place called Tiburon, S.C, where she thinks her mom may have been. Rosaleen and Lily begin their journey to find people who could have known Lily's mother. Similarly, in, The Wizard of Oz, when Dorothy realizes she is not in Kansas, she sets out to the Emerald City to ask the Wizard how she can get back home. "... All you do is follow the Yellow Brick Road." She embarks on her journey by following the yellow brick road. Dorothy and Lily meet new people who help them and who teach them different things along the way. In the end they both get what they were looking for all
