The Crucible and McCarthyism are similar because they both name names of people,they had no clear evidence and they didn’t testify. The Crucible and McCarthyism are not all that different. They were both very dangerous and evil events that have happened, which have ruined many people. In The Crucible, There were many people that were trying to save themselves or another person by using others. John Proctor’s wife Elizabeth was accused and sent off to sit in jail until she hangs or confesses. John did not want his innocent wife to be hung for something she did not do.
During the time that Arthur Miller created the Crucible, America was dealing with a very similar problem compared to the Salem witch trails. This problem was called McCarthyism, it was believed that a few hundred communists had entered the country, and they posed a threat to American safety. The accusations of communists in the country caused mass paranoia among the entire United States. Arthur Miller was one of them accused of being a communist and was trialed for it, which most likely lead to the creation of his play the Crucible. After the end of both events - the Salem witch hunt and McCarthyism - the effects afterward left devastating results and lingered for many more years to come.

This era would be named McCarthyism and the red scare was also part of this era. This would set the stage for a story down the road. The crucible by Arthur Miller is an allegory for the red scare in the McCarthy era because of the false accusations, general hysteria among the townspeople, and proving of injusticing by authority/ accuser. Enter John McCarthy who first started his false accusations of supposed communists in America in the state of Wheeling, Virginia.
