Many people believe that Mexicans and Puerto Rican’s are the same. Puerto Rico and Mexico are not the same at all Mexico is a whole country itself while Puerto Rico is a island that is actually part of the United States, Mexican food is very different from Puerto Rican food, and Mexican Spanish is not the same as Puerto Rican Spanish some words mean different things in the Mexican Spanish. “Mexico is a large North American country lying south of the United States.” (Admin) Mexico was colonized by the Spanish Empire in the 15th century and the people from Mexico who moved to the United States are actually not allowed to be in the United States till they have a passport and registration papers. Puerto Rico was colonized by the Spanish who brought along African American slaves to work in the mines and plantations led to mixing of races with influences from Europeans, African blacks, and the original inhabitants. Mexico was mingling with the Europeans of the local populace wich led to a new breed of people. “Mexican food uses corn and beans and spices such as chilli, oregano, chocolate, chipotle, and many more.” (Admin) It is a mixture of indigenous and Spanish food. It is the Spaniards who influenced Mexican food as we know it today. Puerto Rican food has Spanish, Taino, African influences. (Admin) Mexicans cook burritos, enchiladas, and tortillas while Puerto Ricans cook arroz con pollo, tostones, ampanadillas, pastilijos, and plaintains. Most of the time when a Mexican cooks a meal they they decide to put in some spice or peppers to make the meal spicy, but most of the time Puerto Ricans don’t cook with spices or peppers so their food is rarely spicy. Most Mexicans cook with a lot of fat and grease in their food witch is bad for you and your health, but Puerto Ricans do not cook with much grease or fat at all making our meals a bit healthier than a Mexican
