Puerto Rico was colonized by the Spanish who brought along African American slaves to work in the mines and plantations led to mixing of races with influences from Europeans, African blacks, and the original inhabitants. Mexico was mingling with the Europeans of the local populace wich led to a new breed of people. “Mexican food uses corn and beans and spices such as chilli, oregano, chocolate, chipotle, and many more.” (Admin) It is a mixture of indigenous and Spanish food. Most of the time when a Mexican cooks a meal they they decide to put in some spice or peppers to make the meal spicy, but most of the time Puerto Ricans don’t cook with spices or peppers so their food is rarely spicy.
