In the piece of piece of literature Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, one of the main characters Romeo is plagued by the fact that he is unable to court Rosaline, a woman who he has convinced himself is his true love because she is a nun.Romeo then is brought to a party by his cousin Benvolio, and it is there which Romeo sees Juliet-the lady who he eventually takes his own life to be with - and falls in love with her. For example, the very first time Romeo sees Juliet his words are “Did my heart love till now?”. Romeo had convinced himself that he loved rosaline; he cried for so long thinking about how he could not have her, but when he sees Juliet we see that he truly did not love Rosaline. We see that Romeo never truly loved Rosaline, but instead we see that all this time he was forcing himself to want her; because if he truly did love her he would not have shifted his feelings away from her so quickly.
