Two families, the son of one and the daughter of the other. They become lovers and nothing will detach them. One dies and the other takes her life for the other. It stops a family feud and unites them together. This is the story of Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare. In this essay comparing and contrasting the characters and setting between the play and the movie will be that main points of this essay. While,the play written and produced by Baz Luhrmann.

In brief, William Shakespeare's play is about a boy and a girl that live in Verona, Italy fall in love and cannot be separated. Their names are Romeo and Juliet. They become lovers. The character I am going to compare is Friar Lawrence. In the play and the movie Friar Lawrence is a Priest. Friar Lawrence is also an expert with plants. He makes potions with the herbs. He is also a very loyal friend to Romeo. Friar Lawrence is Romeo's counselor. Romeo tells the Friar Lawrence everything he has in his mind.

However, I will also be comparing the setting. The setting, I am going to compare is Verona. In the play and the movie the setting is in Verona. They both have Juliet's balcony. The Montagues tomb and Montagues house. The most important scene is the balcony scene. In the play and movie the balcony seems the same with the orchard beside it which is the garden.

Whereas, the first difference found is among the characters. The character I chose is Friar Lawrence. They first difference between the play and the movie is that in the play the Friar uses herbs and plants. While in the movie he uses drugs and mostly weed. In the play, he seemed more like a scientist. While in the movie he seemed more like a drug dealer. The Friar has many differences but one thing i find the most difference with is that in the play he seems more like Romeo’s counselor while in the play more like Romeo’s
