Romeo and Juliet is a tragic love story, much like Daisy and Gatsby’s. In Shakespeare's novel, Romeo and Juliet cannot be together because of the feud between their families, and their love was deemed improper. In The Great Gatsby, a similar situation is at hand. Daisy and Gatsby were in love, but never had the chance to be together because of numerous factors. Gatsby was going off to war, and Daisy's parents did not approve of the man she wanted to marry. This alludes to Romeo and Juliet in that their relationships were both deemed inappropriate, but both found some way to persevere. Not only does the factor of forbidden love create a connection between the two novels, the unhappy ending seems to be quite consistent between the two. They
