Throughout the stories Beowulf, Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, and The Wife of Bath’s Tale they are folk lures told during the Anglo-Saxon era. In each of these tales, the protagonist or main character goes through a journey to obtain self-knowledge through quests or due to certain events. For example, in Beowulf with his many battles that are told in his story such as when he fought Grendel he did not necessarily gain anything, because the battle was a easy feat he encountered. Compared to the battle with the dragon it required a lot more strength and effort to defeat the dragon which helped him to gain the trust of others and take the role as king.
