Star Wars: A New Hope and Excalibur, are very parallel for numerous reasons. Both Luke Skywalker and Arthur Pendragon are looking for a forceful weapon, and stumble upon something much more powerful than they were looking for. Both weapons they found, the sword and lightsaber, were hidden from them until they were old enough to overthrow their unknown fathers. The most obvious reflection is between the main characters Luke and Arthur. The time period is vastly different but there both have similar humble beginnings. They both grew up without a father figure but meet their mentors, Merlin and Obi-Wan Kenobi, early in life. They are known for committing many acts of generosity. The plots of Star-Wars: A New Hope, and Excalibur coincide with each other like the characters do. First of all, both movies start in a kingdom and galaxy of turmoil. In Excalibur the kingdom turns to chaos when citizens learn that the King has died and everyone wants the throne to themselves. In Star Wars the evil leader tormented the galaxy, in order to rule by fear and developed the Death Star.One main plot similarity is the reoccurring love triangle. In Excalibur, Arthur marries the lovely Queen Guinevere. Soon Arthur’s best knight, Lancelot falls in love with her. When caught in bed together, Lancelot fought his way past the guards, and Guinevere was condemned to burn in hell because of her sins. In Star Wars the same thing happens but once Luke and Leia find out they are siblings, Han Solo sweeps her off her feet and remains best buds with Luke. Another great similarity is how Luke goes from a small farmer boy trying to find something to pass time to recieving Princess Leia's hidden message, fleeing his home town and joining the Rebel Alliance. Much like Arthur looking for a sword to joust with, pulls Excalibur out of the stone and automatically becomes King in a few
