Lewis. The opening included a scene that showed Nazis bombing the Pevensie’s house. Viewers also see how the kids get into the wardrobe, including Lucy when she meets Mr. Tumnus. Additionally, visualizers see how the White Witch came across Edmund. There are not only changes in the characters, but also in the settings. Some of the places seen in the movie, including the Pevensie’s house, the train station, the Professor’s house, and the Witch’s castle, were slightly different or added altogether. Tumnus’s house being destroyed by the White Witch, how the kids got into the wardrobe, and the kids crossing the river. First, in both book and movie the Professor tells Peter and Susan to believe Lucy using logic. The Professor tells Peter and Susan that they should believe Lucy because there are many strange things in the house, and Narnia could be very possible. He uses logic by presenting the case to them differently, he says either Lucy is telling the truth, crazy, or telling lies. Another similarity is when Mr. Tumnus’s house is destroyed by the White Witch and he is captured. In both book and movie, the four kids follow Lucy to go see Mr. Tumnus, but when they get there, they see his house destroyed with a letter explaining what happened. The letter states that Mr. Tumnus was captured for not telling the White Witch about Lucy. Now for the differences, the four kids go through the wardrobe differently in the book and movie. In the book, they go through the wardrobe because Mrs. Macready was giving guests a house tour and she didn’t want any kids getting in her way, so the kids decided to hide. The four kids get in the wardrobe because they hear Mrs. Macready around the corner and they scurry to find somewhere to hide. The opening scene compares and contrasts in scenes such as the bombing scene, when the kids get into the wardrobe, how Mr. Tumnus “captures'' Lucy, and how Edmund meets the White Witch. Although there are differences and similarities in the opening, there are also a few in the locations. The locations involved are the Pevensie’s house, the Professor’s house, the Witch’s castle, and the train station. The locations are not the only area where the novel and movie differ, the characters do as well. Some of these characters include the White Witch, Father Christmas, Edmund, and Aslan. Another area where the movie and novel differ is the plot. Viewers watch as the plot differs in scenes such as when Mr. Tumnus’s house is destroyed by the White Witch and when the kids cross the thawing river with the beavers. Additionally, when the Professor explains logic to Peter and Lucy and how the kids get into the wardrobe. Lastly, the two differ in the ending scenes as well. This includes the scenes where the White Witch wears Aslan’s fur and when Aslan’s army retreats. Also, when Edmund breaks the White Witch’s sword and when the White Witch kills Aslan.
