There are so many creation myths in this world today; we now believe them to be a gift of literature--attention capturing stories like To Kill A Mockingbird or The Great Gatsby. These stories are filled with imagination and detail. Perhaps this is why we find mythology to be so interesting. However, there are multiple similarities between these stories. These similarities are called motifs; an example of a motif is a chaotic start to the world. Many creation myths have a chaotic beginning to their new world. Another example could be numerous creators, or gods. This is probably to show that women and men are both essential items of the earth. The babylonian, chinese, incan, and the mayans all had more than one creator. The babylonians creators were named Apsu and Tiamat. Apsu was the “begetter” of the world, and Tiamat was “the one who bore them all” . The chinese creators were Nuwa and pan-gu. Pangu came first, he created the earth. Then, Nuwa came and created life on earth. This is how those two creators were included in this creation myth. This is the re-making of humans. Some gods in creation myths would destroy and re-make the human race because they did not find their creation was suitable enough. Humans might have included this in their religion because nobody is perfect. The Mayan and Yoruban creation myths include the re-making of humans. In the mayan creation myth the first human race was made out of wet clay, but of course it crumbled to pieces before it could come to life. The second race was wooden; because this race was wooden they did not know how to feel or think or worship. This was a problem in the god's’ eyes, therefore for the third and last time they made the human race out of white corn. This gave the human race wisdom. The gods still weren’t happy because the human race could see everything- the future, the past, and the present. To repair their mistake they took some of the human's’ vision. In the Yoruban creation myth there were only two generations. A godly man was out on earth to create a race of humans. He also found wine and he drank it obsessently. He drank this wine while making the first race of humans causing them to look deformed. Because he was intoxicated and his creation was deformed he destroyed the first race and made a second one. This time he did not drink the wine while he created humans, and they turned out just the way he wanted
