Simon and Piggy Simon and Piggy are characters of the novel “Lord of the Flies” by William Golding, published in the year 1954. This version of the novel is released by the publisher “Klett”. The novel deals with a group of young boys who are on an uninhabited island because their plane crashed there. Throughout the novel the boys split into two groups. One group wants to be rescued and still obeys the normal rules of society but the other group understands that there are not any rules on the island, so they just do what they want and first begin to live in an anarchy that then transforms to a dictatorship. In the middle of the final battle, a manhunt, a marine officer appears and the boys are rescued. Piggy is one of the first characters to appear. He is a short, “very fat” (p.8 …show more content…

But when there was the discussion about the beast he grabbed the conch and said what he was thinking but was laughed at for it (p.111 l.10 chapter 5). He is the only one to consider that the beast is not an actual living being. His way of thinking makes him understand that the beast is a part of everyone (p.110 l.29). His thinking is confirmed by the Lord of the Flies, a hallucination he has after seeing the pig´s head on a stick. Out of this scene one can see that he sees himself as an outsider and wants to be liked by the other boys. When he finds out that the beast actually was a dead man with a parachute he wants to tell the others but is killed by them during an ecstatic dance. He is the first one to get killed and the only boy who remains innocent. Piggy and Simon have a lot in common. They are both described as physically weak and ill. But while first Piggy cannot help because of his asthma, Simon helps a lot. Both boys are thinkers. Piggy is the rational one who thinks in a scientific way. In opposite to that Simon is a visionary. He has a huge fantasy and thinks in a irrational way. One can see this difference by their views of the
