A person is never fully themselves in a group of their peers. Instead, that person’s identity is now an accumulation of each group member’s personality. In ¨The Lord of The Flies¨ by William Golding a large group of boys are stranded on an island due to a plane crash. The boys go through many trials and many difficult situations but end up getting rescued. The boys fought against a beast that changed everything on the island and everyone else. The boys have fought for their lives, lost their lives, and won over the leadership of the group. In groups particular, it's hard to be yourself not knowing what anyone would think of you or how you would come off. You shadow your true self to fit in with what you see as not being ¨different¨. In the book, there is a kid named Piggy. Piggy has beneficial ideas and is willing to do what it takes to help each other and get off the island. Piggy gets judged by almost everyone on the island because he's ¨fat¨ and he wears glasses. The boys think differently of him just because he doesn't look like them. This makes Piggy feel like he can't be himself around the group and has never truly had the opportunity to be, so he uses Ralph as his voice. Piggy shouldn't have to make and tell Jack to give him his glasses back, Jack should do it to be …show more content…

The whole time Piggy has been on the island, he has had some reasonable and sensible ideas. Piggy was viewed as different because he looked different so everyone doubted him. Even if he lacked physical appearance to the others that don't make anything little of his mentality or ideas. In chapter 8, Piggy says ¨Piggy lifted the conch as though to add power to his next words."We got no fire on the mountain. But what's wrong with a fire down here? A fire could be built on the rocks. On the sand, even. We'd make smoke just the same." (Golding, 100). The boys were trying to come up with ideas to get saved because the fire they had going wasn't doing too good for them and Piggy came up with the idea of making another fire down on the beach while having one on the mountain. The boys were hesitant but went along with it because they realized he had a good idea. When you give someone a chance and don't doubt them for no reason you will see something good or get something good out of it. Not only does Piggy's idea benefit him but it could help them all be saved, they would all be saved because of
