Sometimes, the only beast a person should be afraid of is the beast inside of themselves. It takes real strength to not let the beast overcome and take control. It takes even more strength for them to be willing to sacrifice themselves for others. The Christ-figure in literature is the spiritual character that risks his or her life for others and often reflects on an actual prophet. In the Lord Of The Flies, Simon gained knowledge of the beast on the island and knew the consequence if he told anyone, and he still risked his life. Simon's name even refers to Simon Peter in the bible. Simon is known as the Christ-figure because of his willingness to sacrifice himself, not judge others, and he does not become a savage. Simon states, “What I mean is . . . maybe it’s only us”(Goulding, 89). Simon predicts that the only evil that exists on the island is them. Simon is the kindest, and most passionate person on the island. He is also smart for being the only one who knows the beast is not real. He realizes that the only “beast” that everyone is afraid of, is the beast that lived inside of each other. He is not afraid to go through the woods, while all the other boys are. Simon does not speak much, but when he does , he always said something positive. Simone is always against the idea of evil, he never kills, or had the urge to kill. He sides with Ralph and Piggy, but even they let some evil inside of them, when they helps kill Simon. Simon even has his own place that he would go off to when he wanted to be alone to meditate, his action acts on a spiritual
