Sir Arthur C. Clarke is known as one of the most influential science fiction writers. With his imagination and writing ability, his books were loved by many and still are to this day. Clarke brought his experiences into his life and used his writing to express himself in a unique way. By looking at Childhood’s End, one can see that Arthur C. Clarke included the themes of technology and space exploration because of his curiosity of the unknown. That same curiosity started at a very young age. Sir Arthur Charles Clarke was born on December 16, 1917 in Minehead, United Kingdom. Clarke grew up a son of a farmer with his sister and two brothers in Minehead (Sir Arthur C. Clarke Biography). It was there where he learned how to deep sea dive. He even worked on the filming of The Great Barrier Reef with his friend Mike Wilson. Arthur Clarke enjoyed Sri Lanka so much he decided to move there permanently in 1956 (Sir Arthur C. Clarke). He continued to avidly deep sea dive until a temporarily paralyzing blow to the head forced him to take time off from undersea explorations in 1962 (Sir Arthur C. Clarke). Clarke continued to write many great stories even after his accident. In 1998 while his writing career was doing outstandingly well, Clarke was going to be knight hooded by the queen until a scandal surfaced that he was a pedophile. This caused his knighthood to be set back two years (Arthur C. Clarke). The allegations were soon cleared up and Clarke was knighted by Queen Elizabeth in 200 but due to Clarke’s poor health he couldn't make the trip to London to receive his honor in person (Arthur C. Clarke Biography). Due to Clarke’s earlier health issues like dealing with post polio syndrome for decades and suffering with issues breathing. he was forced to use a wheelchair.
