In The Necklace there is irony going on. Irony means you have an expectancy as what you think should happen, yet there is a different outcome.In this story there is irony throughout and it is called situational irony.

Madame Loisel, that was her name. She was born a beautiful women, without a dowry. Dowry is what is given to her husband when she is handed into marriage.This is what she did not have, also not being able to ever be loved by someone prosperous;unlike her. She had no hopes of ever getting married to someone at a higher rank than she was, for she was poor.Yet she managed to get married, but with a minor clerk. This here represents irony, she thought she would not get married yet she did. This is also ironic because she got married to someone at a lower rank than what she was.Then one day her husband told her that he got an invitation to a royal ball. Her husband , Monsieur Loisel , said that her dress was decent for the ball , then she began to bawl.She begged to get money so she could be able to buy a decent dress for the royal ball. As she begged Monsieur Loisel asked her how much it would cost for this decent dress.She responded and said to him ¨Four hundred francs¨, he thought to himself about this amount of money. This money he was saving up to buy a gun. Yet he gave her the money and she bought the dress and was pleased; for a while. Then she became drowsy to the fact that she didn't have jewelry to accompany the dress, so she borrowed from a friend. She attended the royal ball, and as she approached inside she noticed she was the most beautiful women in the room. She became popular at sight, for everyone noticed she was gorgeous. This was also irony, because she thought as a young girl that she would never be popular, or become well known.
