Skin cancer is the most common type of cancer. Luckily, it is also one of the easiest to cure. Our bodies are made up of many different types of cells, and typically cells grow, divide, and die. Although this is the case, sometimes cells mutate and begin dividing rapidly compared to normal cells. In order to form other tumors, cells that are supposed to die clump to others. If the tumors are malignant, they begin to kill the body’s healthy tissues. Cancer cells could spread throughout the body from these tumors in order to form new tumors on the body. Benign tumors do not spread around the body. Last year, more than 1 million people were diagnosed with skin cancer. The tumor is made out of vascular structures and spindle cells. Blood tests are not as efficient because they may not show any abnormalities. (Www.dermnetnz.org, 3 Sep. 2015. Web.) Doctors typically diagnose KS through a visual inspection and asking the patient questions concerning their health history. Due to other conditions that look similar to KS, a second test could recommend to ensure correct results. Also, if there are no visible signs of KS, a second test to ensure the results are correct will be needed.
KS testing includes Biopsy, Chest X-ray, Endoscopy, and Bronchoscopy. A biopsy is when the cells from where the tumor may be. Afterwards, the sample collected is taken to a laboratory for testing. A chest X-ray is used to look for symptoms of KS in an individual’s lungs. An endoscopy allows the doctor to look inside of the patient’s upper gastrointestinal tract. A camera attached to a long thin tube is used to view this and to take tissue samples or biopsies. Lastly there is a bronchoscopy, which is an endoscopy for the lungs. (www.healthline.com, July 30,
