Violence is never the answer to a situation, nor should violence even be a option for anyone. Being violent is a mind thing and there are ways person can overcome the thought of hurting, killing, or even verbally abusing someone. In America, violence takes place every second, minute and every hour of the day. In addition, it costs the U.S. billions of dollars a year in health care, law enforcement and lost productivity. Growing up in a violent environment can shape young people’s future actions in a negative way and because violence is a public health problem, the community should help provide proper counseling, and education for the public in order to provide a safer environment for its members.
Violence in most of the time viewed as a moral problem but it is more efficient to be treated as a public health problem. Kotlowitz discusses the CeaseFire approach which views violence as a public health problem rather than a moral problem and focuses on containing and changing behavior that transmits violence (Kotlowitz). In his article, Kotlowitz presents Slatkin's approach of prevent violence which emerged from his work in suppressing the transmission of infectious diseases. If there are people that do not like violence and want to help their friends or family and they do not know how to go about it, they should be able to talk to a teacher or a guidance counselor to help them.“ In the article “ I See Everything Through This Tragedy” states that they set aside 20 minutes each morning for students to meet in small groups with a teacher, to talk about what goes on in their daily lives”(Kotlowitz). If you do not catch the violence when it is just starting in someone it will only get worst and worst over
