Slavery was a big part of american history.Although it was good for society back then does not mean it is a good thing. It actually started many racial slurs that we use today. But overall slavery was a horrible thing. You see they didn't really think about it back then because back then people saw a african american as a animal. This led to no consideration to slaves. Frederick douglas shined light on the american slave system by becoming an abolitionist. Once he was free he started going to meeting were people with the same opinion on slavery came together and spoke. People who supported slavery saw slaves as animals who should be treated poorly and forced into labor. But slaves thought as themselves as humans who deserve equal rights. He also thought that slavery should be abolished. Slave holders only liked slavery because it benefited them not the slaves. Slaveholders also thought that slaves should not have equal rights and they were even willing to fight for their opinion. The way he used his narrative to show his position on slavery is he showed how it changed people. He also wrote about ways he tried to stop it. He also informed the reader hor slaveholders threatened them and torched them also how they used food as a weapon. Also, he presented how slavery affected his relationship with his family. He also did not get much education because of it. Douglas also experienced a lot of owners but their is one in particular. Their was a lady he described as nice and caring. See the reason she was different is because she never had a slave before. Once she found out she had complete power over him she changed rapidly. Int the book it states “The fatal poison of irresponsible power made all of sweet accord changed to one of harsn and horrid discord.” this implies that the idea of having complete control over someone changes a person
